THIS FLIGHT EXPERIMENT DIRECTLY ADDRESS DECADAL SURVEY REPORT RECOMMENDATIONS P2, ESTABLISH A ROBUST SPACE FLIGHT PROGRAM OF RESEARCH ANALYZING PLANT AND MICROBIAL GROWTH AND PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSES TO THE MULTIPLE STIMULI ENCOUNTERED IN SPACE FLIGHT ENVIRONMENTS, AND WILL DIRECTLY ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING OVERARCHING QUESTIONS FOR CELL, MICROBIAL, AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, CMM, IN THE SPACE BIOLOGY SCIENCE PLAN, I.E., CCM 1, HOW DO ALTERATIONS IN GRAVITY AFFECT: 1. CELL AND MICROBIAL REPLICATION INCLUDING GENETIC AND METABOLIC REGULATION? AND 2. MICROBIAL BIOFILM FORMATION AND/OR ALTERED POTENTIAL FOR DISEASE?, AND CMM 5, WHAT ARE THE GENETIC CHANGES UNDERLYING PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSES TO SPACE FLIGHT DEMONSTRATED IN BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS. BIOSERVE WILL PROVIDE ITS FULL SERVICE TURN-KEY MISSION INTEGRATION AND OPERATION SERVICES AND ASSOCIATED SPACE FLIGHT HARDWARE WHICH INCLUDES 36 GAPS AND 288 FPAS, FLIGHT AND GROUND, AND ITS SABL OR CGBA INCUBATOR ON BOARD ISS, TO SUPPORT THE SLPS MICRO 12 PAYLOAD ENTITLED, INVESTIGATING THE PHYSIOLOGY AND FITNESS OF AN EXOELECTROGENIC MICROORGANISM UNDER MICROGRAVITY CONDITIONS. THIS SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDES: PROVIDING OR COORDINATING THE USE OF ALL SPACE FLIGHT HARDWARE REQUIRED TO MEET THE MICRO 12 EXPERIMENT OBJECTIVES. THIS INCLUDES CGBA OR SABL ON BOARD ISS FOR INCUBATION, 36 GAPS AND 288 FPAS, FLIGHT AND GROUND COMBINED. COORDINATING THE USAGE OF COLD STOWAGE ASSETS FOR TRANSPORT TO OR FROM ISS: 4C ON ASCENT AND 4C AND 95C ON DESCENT. CONSTELLATION PROGRAM SUPPORT CONTRACT ON JANUARY 14, 2004, THE PRESIDENT DIRECTED NASA TO EMBARK ON A SPACE EXPLORATION PROGRAM THAT WILL ADVANCE THE NATIONS SCIENTIFIC, SECURITY AND ECONOMIC INTERESTS. IN SUPPORT OF THIS VISION THE UNITED STATES (US) WILL: A. IMPLEMENT A SUSTAINED AND AFFORDABLE HUMAN AND ROBOTIC PROGRAM TO EXPLORE THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND BEYOND. B. EXTEND HUMAN PRESENCE ACROSS THE SOLAR SYSTEM, STARTING WITH A HUMAN RETURN TO THE MOON BY THE YEAR 2020, IN PREPARATION FOR HUMAN EXPLORATION OF MARS AND OTHER DESTINATIONS. C. DEVELOP THE INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND INFRASTRUCTURES BOTH TO EXPLORE AND TO SUPPORT DECISIONS ABOUT FUTURE DESTINATIONS FOR HUMAN EXPLORATION. D. PROMOTE INTERNATIONAL AND COMMERCIAL PARTICIPATION IN EXPLORATION TO FURTHER US SCIENTIFIC, SECURITY, AND ECONOMIC INTERESTS. IN RESPONSE TO THE PRESIDENTS VISION FOR SPACE EXPLORATION (VSE), NASA ESTABLISHED THE EXPLORATION SYSTEMS MISSION DIRECTORATE (ESMD) TO DEVELOP A CONSTELLATION OF NEW CAPABILITIES, SUPPORTING TECHNOLOGIES, AND FOUNDATIONAL RESEARCH THAT ALLOWS FOR THE SUSTAINED AND AFFORDABLE EXPLORATION OF SPACE. ESMD ESTABLISHED THE CONSTELLATION PROGRAM (CXP) AT JSC TO MANAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FLIGHT AND GROUND INFRASTRUCTURE AND SYSTEMS REQUIRED TO ENABLE CONTINUED HUMAN ACCESS TO SPACE. CXP, WITH APPROVAL OF THE ESMD, ESTABLISHED PROJECT OFFICES TO DESIGN, DEVELOP, AND PROVIDE THE SPECIFIC DELIVERABLES REQUIRED. THE FUNCTION OF THE PROGRAM PLANNING AND CONTROL (PP&C) OFFICE IN THE CXP IS TO PROVIDE THE CXP THE NECESSARY MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS), PERFORMANCE MEASURES, SCHEDULE DEVELOPMENT AND SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE, CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT (CM), DATA MANAGEMENT (DM), INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) AND DATA ARCHITECTURE (DA) TO EXECUTE THE CXP MISSION.
